Obituary - Mary Hanna Davis
July 25, 1925, Dunedin FL - October 23, 2020, Great Falls Virginia
Mary Davis was born July 25, 1925, in Dunedin Florida, to Dorothy T. Hanna and world-renowned boat designer and inventor John G. Hanna.
She attended Florida State College for Women before marrying her husband of 61 years; Frank H. Davis Jr.
She worked full time in the hospitality industry until she was 78 including serving 5 years as the Social Service Director for a retirement home of 300 in Southern California.
Some of the Hotels, Resorts and Inns that she managed with her husband included:
The Feather River Inn, CA
The Westwood Horizons, CA
The Gene Autry Hotel, CA
The Pelican Beach Club, St Thomas, USVI
The Danish Chalet Inn, St Thomas, USVI
She also worked full time at Norris Hardware in Pacific Palisades California, the town where she and Frank raised their family for 18 years.
A little about Mary Davis and her community/ church service.
Mary was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Great Falls Virginia (the town to which she moved after the passing of her husband Frank in 2007, to be with her daughter Lynda and her family). At Christ the King she participated in the Bible Study and Women's Groups and helped with the Out Reach Program.
She served as the President of the Church Women, served on the Call Committee and ran Bible Study classes for decades.
She participated in the Great Falls Ecumenical Council as well as several joint programs that bring music and national memorial remembrance ceremonies to the community.
She was on the Board of Directors of the Great Falls Senior Center, and headed the holiday/winter events planning.
She was a member of Cedars for Seniors in Great Falls for 8 years and participated in monthly educational events.
She was a member of Inner Wheel of the Rotary for 35 years and served on many committees.
She also served as the adult sponsor of the Young Women's Christian Assoc Teen Program for 3 years, and with Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts with her children.
In Great Falls she was frequently referred to as "The Mayor" because she would regularly greet all our service industry personnel (and pretty much anyone else that would stand still long enough!) with encouraging words, huge smiles and her famous bear hugs!
Mary is survived by two of her three children; Lynda C. Davis and Jack H. Davis, and five grandchildren; Spencer, Trevor & Ana Blankley, and Ryan & Rachel Davis
