Obituary of Kimberly Joy Dougherty

The funeral for Kim Dougherty on Saturday, November 7, 2020 at 4:00pm EST will be livestreamed at service time. Due to COVID-19, the Memorial Service is limited to invitation only. However, everyone is welcome to attend the Friday, November 6^th visitation from 5:00pm-8:00pm.  At the conclusion of the service you will be able to view the service recording for one year using the same link.

Kim Dougherty, 52, of Herndon, VA, passed away after a 15-month battle with cancer, Tuesday, October 27, 2020.

Kim was born February 22, 1968 in Van Nuys, California. She received a bachelor’s degree from George Mason University and subsequently obtained her CPA designation. Kim was an Army brat who lived in California, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, Indiana, Panama before settling in Virginia when she was 14 years old. After graduating college, she worked in defense contracting, spending her successful career with one firm that – after numerous acquisitions – is now GDIT.

Kim enjoyed home renovation projects, traveling, swimming, softball, riding motorcycles, bowling, soccer and pole dancing. She had a heartfelt love for animals and was active throughout her adult life. She so enjoyed her retreat home in Punta Gorda Florida where the smooth jazz music, friends and away time with her husband filled her heart with joy.

Kim married Keith Dougherty on January 23, 2015. She adored & loved her husband, friends & family. Kim’s inner spirit was fueled by a profound selflessness where the needs of others were paramount to her own. She will always be remembered for her angelic, warm smile and the joy she brought to so many others in her life.

Kim is survived by her loving husband of six years, Keith Dougherty, her stepdaughter Kylie Dougherty, her mother Helen Schumacher, her two sisters Jenny Bruell (Harry) and Courtney Schumacher, and her nephew and nieces Leo, Maxine and Simone. She was preceded in death by her father Daniel Schumacher and her niece Taya Bruell.
