Condolences to Rich's wife, sons and family and thank you for sharing such a wonderful man. He was very proud of his family. Rich was so personable and always greeted me where ever, in the halls or in the elevator of FDIC, with a warm smile. He always took time to say how are you doing today, Benita? RIP my friend, Richard Brown for you will be missed.

I want to extend my sympathies to Rich's wife and sons. Rich and I became acquaintances because of economics. We became friends because of his upbeat personality, his good will, ...and his willingness to laugh at my bad jokes. I am only one of assuredly very many who will miss Rich and who will carry fond memories of him evermore. As I think back over some of my many conversations with Rich, I am reminded of the old encomium, "Don't cry because it's over; smile because it happened." May your fond memories of Rich comfort you in these difficult days. best, jim wilcox

Had a great conversation with Rich at our 35-year BHS reunion--we didn't know each other well, but it's a special memory I have and am thankful for. My impression of Rich from high school was that he had a keen head on his shoulders. And reading his obituary, it's clear he used his many talents for a lot of good. My prayers are with his family and friends as they celebrate and remember someone who has made the BHS class of 1980 very, very proud.

I knew Rich in High school. He was a gem and a gentleman even then. He was humble, kind and just such a good guy. What a blessing it was to know him! I am so sad for your loss, and pray that the memories you have and the joys you shared will comfort you in the midst of the sorrow, Bobbie (Timmons) Murphy

Rich was always willing to help out whenever he could, even during his difficult last few weeks. Doug and I are next door neighbors. Last month as we were getting ready to go visit some of our children in Utah we stopped by Rich and Cathy’s to let them know of our travel plans. Rich was quick to ask if there was anything he can do for us. That’s the kind of person he was- selfless. I will miss you, Rich.

Rich was our next door neighbor for many years. After a busy spring Saturday he and the boys had spent working in the yard, I asked how things were going. He said “well you know, we spend a day every year working in the yard whether it needs it or not.” We had a good laugh over that. And of course Rich always had a well kept yard and home. I will miss not seeing him on those spring Saturdays. Doug Davidson

I work with Rich at the FDIC. We worked together for many many years. One thing I would like to share about Rich is his willingness to help others. He was always happy to give counsel and help people figure out problems. He was always supportive of the staff and gave everyone who asked, his time and attention. He will be missed and I am very sorry for the loss we are all feeling but especially his family. My heart goes out to you at this time. You are all in my prayers.

Rich was a wonderful friend and an excellent colleague. His thoughtfulness and kindness to others was an outstanding trait. He showed leadership in so many ways, mentored and inspired others, and showed honesty and courage in the wake of challenges. He will be greatly missed by me and many others. Rich was a model to all of us in both our professional and personal lives. His family has my deepest condolences.

My name is Carl Tannenbaum, and I knew Rich through our work with NABE and the Conference of Business Economists. I am a banker, and I also spent four years with the Federal Reserve during the financial crisis; in both capacities, I had the privilege of consulting with Rich on matters pertaining to banking.
He was an excellent economist, but a better man. He was friendly, genteel, and well-spoken. He talked often about his family, his four sons in particular. He set a high bar for the rest of us as a professional, and as a man. I will miss him terribly.
My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
