Obituary of Dorothy Joan Duprey

Dorothy Joan Duprey (Barry) of Fairfax, VA, passed away peacefully on  December 5, 2020 at the age of 89.  Born May 8, 1931 in Nashua, NH she was the daughter of William H. and Dora (McLaughlin) Barry.  She graduated from Sacred Heart School in Nashua, NH in 1949 and Rivier College, in Nashua, NH in 1953 with a Bachelor of Arts in Home Economics.  She was employed by Nashua Jr. High School as a home economics teacher and by Lower Merion School District, Ardmore, PA as a substitute teacher.

She married Richard A. Duprey who predeceased her by 27 years.

Dorothy lived in Havertown and Wynnewood, PA (1956-1984), Scituate, MA (1984-2005) Summit, NJ (2005-2018) and Fairfax, (2018-2020). 

Dorothy was a devoted mother to her seven children, and took great joy in knowing her grandchildren and her great grandson.

Survivors include: 

Stephen P. Duprey (Margaret) of Whitehouse Station, NJ,

Robert V. Duprey (Margaret) of West Grove, PA and Wellington, FL

Martha J. Cosgrove (James) of Herndon, VA

Elizabeth D. Garrett, (Stephen) Pasadena, CA

Marie P. Duprey, (Michael Ross) Billerica, MA

Andrew R. Duprey (Renee) of Colorado Springs, CO

John J. Duprey (Michelle) of Whitman, MA   

She is also survived by 9 Grandchildren and one Great grandson.

Dorothy’s parents, 3 brothers, and 2 sisters all predeceased her. 

Dorothy was an accomplished seamstress and award winning quilter and quilting instructor who enjoyed sharing her craft with others.  She was an avid reader. 


Dorothy was a great example of making the best out of any situation.  She will be intensely missed by her family and friends.

A celebration of life and Internment will be in Scituate, MA at a later date due to COVID.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.  (StJude.org)
