My sincerest condolences to Marcia and Joe’s family. I came to work at Sydec in 1971 fresh out of college, and in my ten years there, Joe, and others, taught me by instruction and example the skills and behaviors that enabled me to contribute to the engineering profession. Over my professional career, I often credited Joe for what he gave to me and expected of me. It had an important impact on me, on my career, and as a result, on my personal life. It was truly a gift. I have tried to pay that gift forward by helping young people I encountered in my working life learn the lessons Joe taught me. May God bless Joe and his family. Joe Sinnott, sinnottjoe@comcast.net

Arriving in Reston in 1971, we soon joined the fledgling Reston Catholic Community. It turned out to be a young, energetic, friendly band of people with similar goals and aspirations as ourselves. We had no church back then, meeting in civic community rooms and schools. The church would come later. It was here we met Joe and Marcia Stowers among many others who epitomized the American attitude of openness and friendliness. Both Joe and Marcia were leaders in our community and were, in no small way, a part of the reason we are still here in Northern Virginia. Now, in the natural order of things, Joe has moved on and we are the poorer. Marcia you remain, but not alone. God Bless you both, Michael and Jacqueline McMahon

My condolences and best wishes to Marcia and the family. I had the pleasure and privilege to work closely with Joe for several decades. He was outstanding in his profession and wonderful as a friend. We did the most challenging and creative projects in our field and Joe always performed at the top of his game. And he always did that while being an absolutely dedicated family man. I worked with Joe on the RA Pedestrian & Bicycle Advisory Committee as we prepared for the Silver Line coming to Reston. One of my favorite photos of Joe is the one where he's one of the first "through the gate" on opening day at Wiehle Station. The victory in his eyes is palpable. I worked closely with him in designing the trail signage throughout Reston. His vision of connecting the RA paths, various sidewalks, Reston Town Center bricks, and even a few shortcuts has evolved to the "color" trails throughout our area, clearly visible with Google Maps. As a fellow cyclist, I am happy to contribute to RA bike parking in his memory. Thank you to his family for sharing him so generously with his community! My condolences for your loss.
