Obituary of Gaylord William Wargo
Gaylord William Wargo
February 26, 1942 – December 25, 2020
Gaylord Wargo was a devoted teacher of history/government for 30+ years (most at Oakton High School in Vienna, VA). He also coached high school tennis and baseball, and was an active member of the Fairfax Education Association, and helped establish the current county retirement system. After retiring, Gay and Susan enjoyed traveling and running their sports memorabilia business, Sports Pics. He will best be remembered for his smile, sense of humor, and talent in photography.
Gaylord was preceded in death by some very influential people in his life, including his wife, Susan Harte Wargo; his parents, Florence & Gaylord Wargo (Altoona, PA), and his grandparents, Ethel & Alex Campbell (California, PA). He attributes his good work ethics to his grandfather, Alex Campbell, who he admired so much.
He is survived by his two sons, Aaron (Atlanta, GA) and Adam (Loudoun County, VA), and one granddaughter, Piper (Atlanta, GA), who all follow in his footsteps with their love of sports and being strong supporters of their alma maters. Gaylord was often seen proudly wearing his California University of PA alumni apparel. Gaylord is also survived by his brother and best friend, Alex Wargo (Mooresville, NC). He had strong family ties and enjoyed spending as much time as he could with his younger brother’s family. Alex and Judy and their two children (Kitrina and Alex) always loved spending the holidays with Uncle Gay! In his final months, his family was by his side as he lost his battle with heart disease. He will always be remembered through his photography where he took many family pictures that leave us all with happy memories.
