My parents moved into Ashby Ponds in December 2008. When Pat & Bob moved in, they were just down the hall. My parents have since passed, but I was their caregiver for the final 6 years of their lives and stayed at Ashby Ponds. Pat & Bob were part of my Ashby Family. They were wonderful people. I stopped by in December and had a wonderful visit with Pat. I stopped by last night, hoping to see her (I now live a couple hours away), and was saddened to learn of her passing. I never saw her without a smile on her face. One year, shortly after Bob had moved to Maple Grove, I was shopping and picked up a small Christmas tree for Pat to bring to him. Nearly every time I saw her after that, she always brought it up and remembered. Seeing her in the hallway would always brighten my day. She will be missed. My Aunt Pat was, to me, all things California. We visited several times when I was in my teens she and Uncle Bob were always great hosts. I used to get really cool Christmas gifts from them that I'm sure came from Bullocks. I especially remember a suede and leather bag that I took to college.:) After college, when I moved to LA, they were both there to help me navigate my first Thanksgiving (hot and with a long drive through Topanga Canyon), as well as when my family came out to visit. It wasn't until we moved to NYC and visited them in Virginia that I realized what deep roots they'd established there when they were first married. They seemed very happy to have left earthquakes behind and so enjoyed their lovely home. They took us to some place like Hometown Buffet as we had two young boys with us and I still remember the look on Pat's face when my son Taylor said he was only eating brown food which ended up being a plate full of chocolate! I have only the best of memories about Pat and Bob.
