Obituary of Gregory R. Morrison

Gregory R. Morrison, 74, of Sterling, Va, passed away on the 8th of January, 2021 at Reston Hospital Center.


Born on November 18,1946 he was the son of the late George R. Morrison and Anna C. Morrison. In addition to his Parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Deana in 2007 and his brother Patrick A. Morrison In May of 2020.


Gregory graduated from Falls Church High School in 1964. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in November of 1965. He served 18 months in Vietnam and was awarded medals for his service, including the Air Force Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service as assistant NCO in charge of Stock records, Munitions Branch, 377th Supply Squadron from July 10,1968 to June 10,1969. During this period his professional skill and initiative aided immeasurably in identifying problems associated with his assigned duties in implementing procedures and techniques to solve these problems. The energetic application of his knowledge played a significant role in contributing to the effectiveness and success of the United States Air Force mission in Southeast Asia. He was Honorably discharged in December of 1969 with the rank of SGT.


After returning home he went to George Mason University and received his Bachelor of Science degree in business administration in 1976, while also working for Safeway at the time. He began his career in banking as a collections and credit adjuster at The National Bank of Washington from 1978 to 1990. After the bank closed he moved on to Perpetual Savings Bank as a Mortgage Collector in Deeds and Trusts from 1991-1993. Advancing his career, he moved on to Cable and Wireless as a Collection Analyst from 1993-2001. Moving on from there he went to work for Accenture in the same field of his experience in Debt Collections from 2001 to 2018 working his way up in the company eventually becoming a Senior Analyst and collecting past due debt from Fortune 500 companies. He also worked part time throughout the years at Safeway, Memco, and Shoppers Food Warehouse and was a member of the local 400 Union.
Gregory was an avid cat and animal lover and had many cats over the years, many of his cats lived to be over 20 years old. He considered his cats his children. He also was dedicated to caring for stray cats in the area for more than 30 years. He was involved in trapping, neutering, and releasing them with the help of friends and Veterinarian clinics working with him. He went out just about every night giving food and water to hundreds of cats over the years. He also made donations to many animal rescue organizations.


He is survived by his brothers Michael Morrison and his wife Marie, of Palm Harbour, Fla. and Timothy Morrison and his wife Cindy, of Chantilly, Va.


A Gravesite Service will be held at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 811 Dranesville Road, Herndon,Va 20170 at 11:00a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2021.
