I met Wayne when we were students at Old Dominion University. Shortly thereafter Wayne joined the Marine Corps. We lived in an old house on Colonial Avenue in Norfolk, Virginia. It still seems like yesterday.. Wayne was a tough guy but quite good-hearted. Woodrow Wagner 757-592-3419, Newport News, Virginia

I am so sorry to hear of Wayne's passing. Wayne and I met in 1969 and had some great times together with Eric Larsen, Charie Cornett, and Steve Prall. Senor Wayne was the nicest and most fun to be around of all of us. He brought his wonderful full smile and laugh to every get together. Hearing him talk of his days in the bush in Vietnam, even riding the Chief's moped, and his constrution jobs, including walking girders and working the big cranes building downtown DC in the early to mid 70's could just mesmerize you. Then his taking summers off to travel on this motorcycle around the US, hitting different parks each year and living on his own until it was time to come back to work and save for the next years trip. Wayne was one of the most independent and self sufficient people I have ever met. Always full of surprises, I still was shocked when he invited me over to Annandale to meet his latest pet, a Boa Constrictor, and watch him eat as we listened to high volume tunes from Spirit.
I will miss Wayne's smile, his love of live and most of all his ability to make friends with everyone he met.
RIP Senor!

Sunit, Daniel and Cienna,
Thank you for the wonderful send off for Wayne. It could not have been more perfect. The music, the tributes and the deep son/father love that is so rare to come by but was in such full display throughout the whole service. Yes, Sunit, he adored you as much as you adored him. Daniel, you were his pride and joy. The perfect child who made his chest grow in awe of his son's possibilities.
Today my son will visit us and I think I'll do something I've never done before and serve him some Krispey Kreme's.
With so much love and admiration for your family.
Carmela Larson (Eric's wife)

Wayne was an incredible man, husband, friend, and proud US Marine. We spoke several times about our time spent in Vietnam.
When he saw me working in the yard, as he passed my USMC flag, he would always yell Semper Fi. He will be greatly missed.

Sunit, Daniel and Cienna as you go through life without Wayne, please know that you are a wonderful credit to his memory. I am sure that Wayne would be thinking of you fondly and with pride for who you are and how you live your life. I've known Wayne since we were in tenth grade in 1964 at Thomas Jefferson High School. Through Wayne's life his love and interest, in order, were Sunit, Daniel, Cienna, USMC, WFT, bicycles, weightlifting, Jimi Hendrix, John Lennon and motorcycles. Wayne was a special person that everyone who knew him considered him a friend. That included my father and mother who always said Wayne was welcome to their home. They even let him drive my 1965 Dodge Dart GT anytime he wanted while I was away in the army. It is never easy to lose someone we care for. It is something that all of us must experience sometime in our lives. Sunit, Daniel and Cienna, I hope this message lets you know that I am thinking of you always. Surely Wayne will never be forgotten.

I met Wayne around 1970. You could not find a better person to be around. I had never heard him speak a harsh word about anyone and he was always in a good mood. We rode many a mile on our motorcycles from Ocean City MD to Seneca Rocks WV., one of our favorite places. I last visited with Wayne around Feb. 2020 before covid-19 kicked in. He was his usual self just a little older. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again, Steve Prall

My thoughts are with the Riddell family. We were good friends in Vietnam and he was a calming influence on me at a stressful time. He was a good Marine.

Our deepest sympathy on your loss. Although it was only once a year, at the Hinters Creek Pool we were always happy to see Wayne. We would compare notes on what our “kids” were doing. He never failed to ask about my kids first. And when I would ask about Danny, well that’s when he would light up. Telling us how he was doing, how Colorado was, his new camper he drove across county to see him. May those beautiful memories bring you some comfort.
