There are so many memories that there is not enough room to write them all down. But the keyword that would address them all is “LOVE.” Joan and I have Great Love for Uncle Roland and the family. May continue to comfort and bring peace to you.
God Bless

Uncle Roland was like a second father to me. He imparted wisdom to me just like my dad. When I had a question or concern he was always open to listen no matter the time or day; and I always respected that. I will miss you.

Many prayers going to Rev. Roland Smith's family. Rev. Smith did my dad's Eulogy Ambrosia Pearson 1983, and I will never forget the outstanding job he did. I use to try and just pop up at his church at Salem Baptist yearly to show how much I appreciated his kind words for my father. I am a descendent of Wooden, Williams, Honesty and Adams so my family has known his forever. God bless you all and know that my family Madeline Wooden Pearson's will be prayer for your family.
Love you all,

To the Smith Family,
Such a beautiful celebration of life for Rev. Roland Smith; a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, co-worker, friend, Pastor, servant, and child of God.
Rev. Smith has a special place in our hearts as he joined my husband and I in holy matrimony 29 years ago. His words, prayers, and guidance still resonate with us today. We are thankful for the opportunity to sit at his feet and to hear his words of wisdom, love, and encouragement.
Rev. Smith loved his family and you have shown us genuine family love. May God comfort and give you strength and peace during this time.
Psalm 34:18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
God bless,
Gregory and Lisha Lee (Leesburg, VA)

You toaght me how to love everybody whith JESUS love even if you didn't always agree as long as the goal was to win souls for CHRIST!!!! You also taught me that only what you do for CHRIST will last giving back love 99.9%of the time.I miss crawling under the church 6 AM to fix the frozen oil lines to try and make sure the church was at least not freezing by 11AM still there were grumblings but the next time I went Rev. right there .I miss those long drives through the mountains and countryside that took so long we thoughtt to ourselves my GOD where does REV. meet these people surely no one lives here but they pop up on the program even for a thursday night even if we out numberd ttem no can't do was never the answer,I miss cooking at those family gatherings where everyone was welcom and everyone showed up and brought a friend I miss Salems famous fish fry never had to send out a notice you insisted on free no church around could come close to what we raised at that price gineus!!!!! But mostly i miss packing at 2 A M headed for the pride and joy and later THE MISS GERRIE to drown some worms I still remember the double rainbows offf of the back of the boat when we made it through the storm with GOD and a compass and we could finally see our way home family i know it hurt's i'm hurting too but REV.iis lookiing offf the back of the boat now at his rainbows wiyh his compass in his hand and JESUS guiding the the boat the road is rough the going gets tough the hills are hard to climb but heard REV. say Istarted a long time ago and there is nd dought in in my mind I've decidded to make JESUS my choice.

Geraldine,
There are some who bring a light so great to the world that even after they have gone the light remains. This is how we think of Pastor Roland.
We remember his faithful presence at the Wednesday Pot Luck and Prayer gatherings. Pastor Roland would always pray for his family and for the needs of others present. He would often come before God saying: “Here I am again Lord, knocking on your door, asking for . . .” When we would ask him, “How can we pray for you?” his response was always, “I can’t complain. God has blessed me.” He had such a gracious and loving spirit.
We will miss his phone calls (just to check on us), his gift of listening and his gentle smile. He was truly a man of God.
Please know that you and your family are in our prayers during this difficult time. – Peggy and Reggie Mervine, Dranesville Church of the Brethren

A Poem from Roland to Family and Friends
Safety Home
I am home in Heaven dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty.
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over;
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safety Home in Heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remain
You shall rest in Jesus land.
When that work is all completely,
He will gently call you home;
Oh, the rapture of this meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come.

I thought of you today but that is nothing new.
I thought about you yesterday and days before that too.
Your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part.
God has you in his arms, I have you in my heart.
Big brother I will miss you but God said Well Done come and take your rest. Marva

During my first year of seminary, I was blessed to have Pastor Smith mentor me in a large project. He showed so much grace, patience, and humor, and I am forever grateful. I had the privilege to preach one of my early sermons to him and his congregation. They were all so beautifully responsive and full of the Spirit that I, nervous as I was, added a bit more to my prepared remarks just to enjoy the Spirit's movement!
May that same Spirit provide comfort to the many here who loved him.

From the first time meeting Pastor Roland, we shared a close bond of friendship and brotherhood. It was so great to work with him in ministry to our churches and to the community.
I remember how he just adored our dog "Happy" (who passed last summer). When Pastor Roland would come to our house for prayer meetings, he would always bring little cubes of chicken and cherry tomatoes to feed to Happy. He would ask me many times when we got together or talked on the phone, "How's my baby?" So we started calling him "Happy's Grandpa."
Sure going to miss Pastor Roland, but will look forward to seeing him in glory!
