Obituary of Joan Carol Wiencko

Joan Carol (née Spillar) Wiencko of Northern Virginia passed away on February 18, 2021.  She was born to the late Edward and Helen Spillar of Pennsylvania in 1932.  She graduated with bachelor’s degree from Marywood University in Early Childhood and Elementary Education and loved being an elementary school teacher for much of her life.

Joan was the loving and devoted wife of her husband the late Joseph Wiencko, married in 1957. She was the loving mother of four sons, Thomas, Joseph Jr., Kenneth, and Robert.  She adored and is survived by her eight grandchildren, Heather, Christina, Robyn, Adam, Anthony, Benjamin, Zachary, and Christopher, and one great-grandchild, Dominic.  Joan was predeceased by her loving husband in 2006, and her son Joseph Jr. in 2017.

Joan was born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, and lived at various times in Washington, D.C., Waterbury Connecticut, Apalachin New York, and Herndon Virginia.  She was a devout Catholic, and along with her husband Joseph significantly supported the various churches they attended, and after Joe’s retirement they were frequently at daily Mass.
