Jim was such a kind, caring friend! He wanted to make sure everyone at a gathering had a good time, whether he knew you or just met you. He was a gentle man whose smile reached his eyes, with a heart for service and the desire to help and encourage others. We will miss his sense of humor and loving spirit!

My sincere condolences to Cheryl and your family. My best memories of Jim are from serving together at Providence Baptist Church, especially in the Angel Tree ministry. Jim trained me well, and I am still coordinating a small team for it every year. He put his heart and soul into every aspect of Angel Tree and insisted on joining hands and praying with each family who received gifts. It was such a special opportunity to learn from Jim- he was funny, loving, self-deprecating, and a taskmaster! I’m glad he’s at home with the Lord but will miss him dearly.

The Tuesday morning Men's Silver Diner Breakfast will never be the same. Jim and I sat next to each other every Tuesday at 7. We had a running habit each Tuesday, since he ordered a breakfast which included a biscuit or toast but did not want it - he made sure the server brought wheat toast - my choice. Each week each attendee would read a portion of the Devotional I e-mailed and Jim made copies for me - I joked that i couldn't do without my administrative assistant. Jim always asked about my daughter.
Jim reached out to me during the COVID crisis, sadly, my circumstances made it difficult to respond - a big regret. I will miss Jim terribly especially our shared unusual sense of humor - we always had a good natured ribbing of each other. From now on Tuesday mornings will be a time I remember with fondness Jim Self.
