Robert Andrew ‘Bob’ Michelitch, 89, of Sterling, VA, passed away on March 12, 2021, in Arlington, VA.
Funeral service will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Herndon, VA on March 24, 2021 at 12 noon. Burial will follow at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA.
Bob was born in Pierce, WV to Mary Snider and John Michelitch on May 9, 1931. He graduated high school in WV and went on to earn Bachelors and Masters degrees from Ben Franklin University in Washington, D.C. He began his professional career at the National Institutes of Health and retired from National Science Foundation where he served as Branch Chief for the Division of Grants and Contracts in 1984. After retirement he participated in projects at the University of South Carolina and Cairo, Egypt before creating RAMTAX, a tax preparation business he operated until he retired in December of 2020. He loved life and was ready for anything. Skiing, biking, bowling, tennis and walking with his dogs Sadie and Sam were his favorite physical activities but his biggest passion was people. He dearly loved his family, treated everyone like family and never met a stranger. He attended Mass daily and enjoyed taking part in church activities at St. Joseph’s.
Bob is survived by his wife Nancy, daughter and son-in-law Robin and Brian Sponaugle, brothers Herman and Harry and many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout the U.S. and cousins Tone, Uros, and Tjasa Skuk, Masa Skuk Jacob and their families in Slovenia.
Originally from a family of 12 children, he is preceded in death by brothers Will, Raymond, Edward, Phillip, Jake and sisters Mary Ann, Freda, Rebecca and Mary.
