Obituary of Maria Altagracia Acevedo-Casta
Maria Altagracia Acevedo-Casta (Mary), 78, originally from Puerto Rico and recently living in Potomac Falls, VA, was called by God to join Him in Heaven on March 15, 2021.
Mary was born on March 26, 1942 to loving parents Federico Acevedo and Carmen Santiago as the second of five children. Mary dedicated her adult life to service, volunteering her time to several civic, nonprofit and healthcare organizations such as the Lions Club and Hospital San Pablo, among others. Her warm personality and quiet demeanor drew friends near her where she served as a confidant. She was always on hand with a welcome smile when one needed it most. A devout Catholic, God was always at the center of her day.
Mary lived her life at the service of everyone who came into it, as a dependable daughter to her parents; a loving wife to her husband; a devoted mother to her children; a proud and adoring grandmother, fondly known as “Ata” to her grandchildren; and a compassionate friend to countless family and friends. She held family unity as a core value and instilled a deep appreciation of it in her children, who came together in service to her in her time of need. Her family will miss her greatly.
Mary is survived by her husband of 54 years Alfredo Casta-Velez; her children - Alfred (Enid), Heidi (Héctor), Ingrid (Jose), and Gretchen (Matt); her ten grandchildren - Nicole (26), Pablo (21), Miguel (19), Amanda (18), Diego (16), Alfredo (16), MariCeci (13), Bianca (12), Alejandro (10), and Ana (9); her siblings - Fanny (Guandy), Fico (Candela), Turin (Cuca), and Robbie (Marina); her sister-in-law Dadda; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Federico Acevedo and Carmen Santiago.
Memorial mass will be held at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, located at 46833 Harry Byrd Highway in Sterling, VA, on Wednesday, March 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
