So many fond memories of Frank, where to start? I have known Yvonne's impossibly smart husband for close to 20 years. We met in Erie. Yvonne and I professionally, and then as families, and dear friends. Frank was always the gentle genius, soft spoken, organized and always tinkering on something. He was a family man, loved his daughters unconditionally. He was always ready for daddy duty when Yvonne was working. He was always a gracious host when I stayed with them as I was working in Erie but living in Florida at the time. There was always coffee and omelets ready in the morning, and when I didn't have to rush off, plenty of conversation. He loved children, a few years ago when my grandson 3-4 years old at the time was visiting there, he pulled out all of his toy trucks and they played for hours, both enjoying it tremendously. One of my favorite memories was my husband playing clarinet duets with Frank, to both of their delight. But the thing I'll always remember were the gentle hugs and "I love you" till my last visit with them.

Beloved husband, devoted father, wonderful friend, Frank will be terribly missed by all. Despite his many publications and awards, we know Frank considered his greatest success his marriage to his bride, Yvonne, and his greatest accomplishments his two beautiful, talented and amazing daughters Theresa and Natalia. At times like this, when a man dies relatively young, we say God needed Frank more than we did. We hope so. He really must have needed Frank a lot. We will always cherish his memory. When sadness is great, recall the poem 'Footprints' whose sentiment can give strength and comfort to the bereaved. May his memory be for a blessing.

All I can say is, "Thank you, FB". You dear, dear friend, mentor. and best boss ever. We had some seriously great times as the best biomechanics team ever assembled. Words cannot adequately detail the upwards trajectory of my life, and the lives of so many others in that little Lab in Erie, PA, because of the guidance you provided us. Strong emotions were too embedded in those years to allow mere words do them justice. We were a team bonded through so much more than biomechanics alone. We were all true friends with a common goal. And talk about some seriously good laughs!! Undoubtedly the best years of my entire career.
Love you, Friend. You are Home now. Please give Princess a kiss from me... I know you're holding her right now.
I will never forget you.
Your Brother in Christ,
KC

Frank Buczek was a "one of a kind" person -- compassionate, leader, super-intelligent, loving, supportive, academic and a difference-maker. I first met Frank when I joined the Center for Locomotion Studies at Penn State in 1988. I viewed him as the epitome of a PhD student in terms of work ethic and ability to grasp complicated issues. It was somewhat intimidating! However Frank always reassured me that I had my own set of abilities! In fact, I think he actively mentored every grad student in the lab! His own research revolved around transforming lab-based (global) coordinate systems and local (anatomical) coordinates. To me this described Frank in a nutshell -- act locally, but think globally. He later went on to graduate, work at both the National Institutes of Health and Shriner's Hospital system, and became President of the Gait and Clinical Movement Analysis Society in 2004/2005. Biomechanists from around the world mourn his passing. RIP friend.

Frank was a wonderful man. We knew him as a loving friend, a devoted husband, a clarinetist, a tinkerer. But most importantly, Frank was an incredible father. His girls were the light of his life. He was taken too soon. We will miss him terribly. Our deepest condolences.

Frank and I crossed paths while graduate students at Penn State. I had the privilege to enjoy his friendship, humour and knowledge as we tackled various biomechanics issues while students. To loose somebody so young is very sad indeed. My condolences to his family.

WHAT A PRIVILEGE IT WAS TO KNOW AND WORK WITH FRANK! I had such respect for him as a person and as a scholar. He was the optimistic light in our research group, always ready to ease any difficult situation with good humor — followed by a flash of his impish smile.
Academically, he was extremely bright and rigorous. The results of any analysis that he performed were always entirely dependable. I learned so much from him in the lab and in the process of working with him on his dissertation.
Personally, he was kind, thoughtful, self-effacing, and filled with genuine wisdom well beyond his young (at the time) years.
His career path reflected a strong desire to apply his skills for the benefit of others. A wonderful example of this drive is apparent in a paper he wrote in 2003 called “Challenges in hip joint modeling for a patient with proximal femoral focal deficiency”. This work showed that conventional biomechanical models are not always suitable for those with altered anatomy and Frank pointed the way towards customization of analysis for such patients.
He has gone so much before his time, but he has left a personal and professional imprint that will live on in the hearts and minds of the many people lucky enough to have known him.
Peter Cavanagh. Frank’s PhD Advisor.

Frank brought great passion, humor and friendship to our graduate class at Penn State. A practical and subtle humor that got us all through both good and bad days.
This picture includes Glenn Street, Randy Dick, Dave Sanderson, Akira (visiting scholar from Japan), and Rodger Kram
Prayers and condolences to Yvonne and the girls. Frank was a unique person and a friend.

I interviewed Frank for his NIOSH position. I asked him what his management style was like. He said he relied on an inner compass. When he was hired I saw this in place. Godspeed Frank!

Sincerest condolences to Yvonne, Natalia, and Theresa. As you know, Frank was a good friend and mentored/ facilitated several biomechanics for the research staff at Hamot Medical Center. Incredibly smart guy but always humble and soft spoken. More than this, he loved his family and was a loyal friend. I will miss my brother in Christ. Tim Cooney
