Dear Mike and family - I wanted to extend my sympathy on your loss. I remember DeAnne as such a vibrant and beautiful person. I remember visiting your home for Thanksgiving one of the years I lived in MD. It was so nice to be with family so far away. I still make one of DeAnne’s recipes I learned that day - a yummy broccoli salad. I am sure Uncle Leon was there waiting with open arms to welcome her home as well as my parents - Tony & Mary. Much love, Amy Berns

The end was a long, arduous journey for DeAnne but God in his infinite wisdom has a plan for each of us and she is surely with her family and friends in His heavenly kingdom. We will miss her charming smile, sense of humor, grace and the love she showered upon family and friends.
It's so painful now but the burning glow of happiness she left behind in our souls is just one of the legacies that her family and friends will cherish forever. We were so fortunate to have had her in our lives.
Our most heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to DeAnne's family and loved ones.

I will always cherish all of the wonderful times spent with DeAnne. There were swim meets, art classes and ladies night out dinners with friends (our "Council of Moms") where we would spend hours talking and laughing. There were Thanksgiving brunches and incredible New Year's Eve dinners prepared and always beautifully presented by DeAnne. She was a very special friend and a beautiful soul. We will miss her. Your family is in our hearts, our thoughts and our prayers.
Love, Gary and Elaine Chapman and Family

DeAnne and I were close high school friends. I had many overnight stays with the Berns family. We had many laughs and good times. Like many friends, unfortunately we did not keep in touch. I would get updates from her parents but I wished we would have rekindled our friendship. I am so sorry for the loss her family is suffering. I hope great memories give you strength during these difficult days.

DeAnn was a year younger than me. She was always so talented: She could slice VERY thin potato’s with wicked speed (much revered talent in a German household). She learned tatting from Grandma Junk (I wished I would have). I always thought I would some day reconnect and commission a quilt. I remember visiting her at her dorm at ISU and was fortunate to meet Mike. I was not surprised at all that they later married; it was obvious both were smitten. I remember playing cards with her at Susan’s wedding and she joked the loser would have to take care of Sarah. (Sarah, I’m sure you’re lovely like your Mom now, but you were a bit of a pill way back then.) She always had a beautiful smile and I loved her red hair! My deepest sympathy to Mike and all her family. I know you will miss this beautiful soul. ❤️
