Uncle Leo, to me was the driving force of his whole family. I witnessed his garden in Florida and a specific cherry tree in his backyard in Vienna. One time he let us climb up to see the cherries up close. He told us a story about one year the cherries were almost ready to pick. The very next day, he went out and the birds had picked it clean… “No cherries”. He told other stories of that tree and how it grew. To this day, I think of Uncle Leo when I purchased those wonderful dark bing cherries. When we would visit in Fort Lauderdale he would show my Daddy his garden, and tell him of his plans. There is something about a man that’s gentle when he gets great satisfaction from his garden.
He was doing what he loved to do, with pride.
He had what I called that “ LAGANA Smile“ , That he passed onto his sons. They from my memory, smile just like uncle Leo. It’s a great legacy to remember him by and comfort the family.
