Obituary of Florence Irene Cohen
Florrie Cohen, 75, of Reston, Virginia, passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2021 at Reston Hospital Center.
Born on October 30, 1945 in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Edward Meyer and the late Hannah Rifkin Meyer. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister Toby Meyer Hambrick.
Florrie graduated from Brooklyn College with a degree in History. She received a Master's degree in History from Lehman College in the Bronx. She taught for many years in the New York City school system but left that career when she moved to Virginia to raise two wonderful children of her own. But she never lost her love for learning and history. She was an avid reader and a devoted member of a book club, a member of the American Association of University Women, and the Foreign Policy Association. She was a great lover of music and played the flute in a local orchestra almost as soon as she came to Virginia. She greatly enjoyed playing mah jongg with a group of wonderful friends. She was always there to root for the Nationals and the Capitals. She was a member of the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation in Reston. With such broad interests, it is no wonder that she had very wide and often overlapping circles of friends who will surely miss her.
She is survived by her loving husband of more than 52 years, Steve, her son Josh and his wife Samantha, her daughter Rachel and her husband Andrew, and two wonderful grand-daughters, Noelle and Daralynn - the delights of her life.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 PM on July 6, 2021 at King David Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, Virginia, Cantor Susan Caro officiating.
