Obituary of Gloria Dean Worley

Please share a memory of Gloria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Gloria Worley, 91, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Thursday, July 29, 2021 with her husband and four daughters by her side.

Gloria was born to Raymond and Valerie Grant of Louisville KY. on December 4, 1929. Her childhood years during the great depression instilled in her the strength and joy of appreciating the little things in life.

Additionally, church life was an integral part of her childhood and from this, she developed a strong faith and trust in God.

After high school graduation, she found a stenographer job in Louisville with the aid of her special note taking skills involving the use of "short hand". In the years to come, those communication skills aided her in the correspondence with missionaries that she and her husband would support in both Vietnam and Africa. In 1951, she was married to her husband, Ansel  A. Worley. They met doing a favorite pastime of the day, roller skating. They later converted that skill into the hobby of ice skating after moving to Chicago. There is where they also raised their four girls.

Gloria enjoyed using her gift of creativity by sewing clothes for herself and her daughters, with arranging flowers, the enjoyment of cooking and through scrapbooking of family history and the pleasure of adventures with her grandchildren. Her scrapbooking skills won her awards as she served as historian for volunteers at VCU Medical Center.  She also loved traveling which included trips throughout Europe and visiting missionaries in Africa.

Gloria’s joy was with children, both her own and all who came through her door, from neighbors to teens that needed temporary homes through the fostering system. She was a blessing to all with her quiet natural warmth, grace, loving spirit, well placed humor and strength.

Gloria is preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters, Nancy, Christine and Betty. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Ansel Worley and their 4 daughters, Karen Neudecker (Steve)

Janice Goldberg (Steve), Diane Merrill (Chris) and Lisa Johnson (Doug). Gloria is also survived by one brother, Raymond, 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.
