“On September 27, 2021, the Puente family lost their beloved mother, Maria C. Puente. Maria was born on February 2, 1941 to Milan and Salome Gonzales in San Antonio, Texas. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Ian Puente, Celso and Marni Puente, Demitrius and Karen Puente and Monica Queen, as well as her sister, Marta Marsh and numerous nephews and nieces. In addition, Maria is survived by eight grandchildren, Catherine Queen, Jackson Puente, Madelyn Puente, Grace Queen, Amelia Queen, Brenden Puente, Julian Puente, and Cristiano Puente. Maria is predeceased by her husband, mother, father and first born son, Demetrius Patrick Puente and siblings Jesse Gonzales, Florencio Gonzales, Tony Gonzales, Alfred Gonzales, David Gonzales, and Molly De La Cruz.

Maria married her childhood sweetheart, Celso Puente Jr., in 1965 and they promptly started a family which was their primary focus throughout their marriage. Maria was a loving, compassionate and selfless mother to her children. She was fiercely protective of her family and always provided a loving home with boundless amounts of unconditional love!! While Maria’s primary focus was that of a mother and homemaker for the early part of her children’s lives, she eventually continued her education and graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry.

Maria’s professional career included positions as a Chemist, Food Technologist and Social Worker supporting Latin American immigrants working to obtain citizenship in the United States. Maria was devoted to her eight grandchildren and was always interested in their activities and accomplishments.

During Maria’s final days, she was surrounded by her children, their spouses and grandchildren who showered her with love, care and affection that we know she felt in her heart!

While her family is heartbroken by their loss, they will always be thankful for the memories of Maria’s presence in their lives. Her family takes comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering, is at peace and dancing with her husband as they watch over their family with happiness.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the excellent doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Maple Grove Skilled Nursing facility, DaVita Kidney Care, and H&M Transportation. The care, compassion and support they provided to Maria can never be repaid and is something the family will always be thankful for.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that family and friends make a donation on Maria’s behalf to the Ashby Ponds Benevolent Care Fund which is set up to provide confidential support for community residents who may need financial assistance as their care requirement costs increase with age. Donations may be made in the following manner:
