My dad…what a man. He and my mom raised four children with laughter, love, good discipline and great knowledge. My dad and some of my great memories – when we had to give up a great dog and I was beyond sad, telling me about her new home and posing as a swaying male peacock, presenting his feathers, that he saw there – just to make me laugh and I laughed so hard. My dad...one of my fond memories as a kid was when he would take us to a local fish hatchery. I can remember walking up and down the walkways and the fish were all frantically swimming in the water. We loved those trips. My dad…when I moved to Iowa for my first job as a School Psychologist, he (and often my mom) would lead the way in their car, as I followed. He would also then return to Iowa in June for our mini caravan back to VA. He did that for four years in a row. My dad…when my son was born, he had a brief medical emergency so no one could visit him. My dad called me to see how I was doing and to ask about my son. I said something to him like, “Oh Dad. He is so perfect and his hair just glistens.” To which my dad replied, “Spoken like a new mom in love with her baby.” My dad…when my big hunk of a son passed away, my dad bought me a heavy bar to secure my sliding door in the basement to protect me. My dad…the one I always turned to when I needed something fixed, because he knew how to fix anything AND would have been mad if I hired someone to fix it. My dad loved my mom for over 66 years. My dad…I will always be thankful for him. Much love to you, my dad.
