Carole, Michael, and Kat ~ My apologies in sending late condolences. I was away from MITRE on a two-month sabbatical and recently learned of Ed's passing. To say he made my days brighter is an understatement. I LOVED our conversations. He was in my "brain trust" group we called "HOS Meeting of the Minds" where we'd meet via TEAMS bi-weekly and sometimes monthly as he advised and shared generously his time and guidance on suggestions to improve many various federal agency projects. He was enthusiastic, fun, caring, smart, patient, and kind. During this time of isolation with the pandemic, my time with him was a bright spot for me personally to linger in intellectual thought and ideas with him. I implemented many of his ideas that became a backbone for an important federal agency public health program and was recently told they are still using our recommendations that Ed helped define. Beyond his intellectual and professional contributions, I considered Ed someone I could walk by the office prior to the pandemic and do "drive bys" to say hi and talk with. With so many hours at work, I considered myself so lucky to have him as a colleague. I hope the memories of Ed help hold you up during this difficult time. He was a blessing to me, and I miss him. My prayers and love to your family during this very sad time. My heart weeps with you. ~ Nicki Crane

I had the privilege of knowing Ed through his work at MITRE which supported the Department of Veterans Affairs. Ed immediately struck me as an extremely capable and relentlessly kind-hearted person who always tended to be the positive voice in a conversation. His work benefited countless lives and I’m grateful to have known him.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.

I went to high school with Ed, graduating in the same class of '78. We even went to the prom together. After many, many years, we reconnected via Facebook and became good friends again, with many enjoyable long-distance video chats. RIP my friend, your friendship will always be remembered.

Carole, Michael, and Kat, I am so deeply sorry for the loss of your husband, father, and friend. I met Ed shortly after he joined MITRE, and we were friends since then. Interestingly, we never worked together, but our paths seemed to always cross. We began weekly calls during COVID due to Ed's initiation, and, for that, I am so grateful. The friendship we developed will be with me forever because of his kindness, genuineness, openness, and wisdom. I loved hearing about Michael and Kat's latest activities, and the trips he looked forward to taking with Carole. I know that I will carry characteristics of Ed with me forever, and the people I meet will benefit because of the friendship I had with him. My heart breaks for you all, and I hope you find strength and comfort in the mark you see Ed left on all the people who have posted here.
You have been in our daily prayers since Ed started treatment, and you will continue to be in them. I am so sorry for the special person you lost.

I had the opportunity to work with Ed several times over the past few years. His knowledge over a wide range of subjects was always impressive. But even more impressive was his consistent kindness and consideration for others. He was such a joy to work with and always provided a calm and caring presence in an often chaotic environment. And I was always learning from him. He will be missed.

Dear Carole, Kat and Michael, I am so very sorry to hear of Ed’s passing. I left MITRE a little over a year ago. But not before I had the good fortune to meet Ed and eventually work with him on a project. Ed and I both worked on the same floor/wing at MITRE and constantly ran into one another, giving us the chance to chat frequently about many different subjects. He was, what I call one of the good guys. He always had something positive to say, always had a smile on his face and always had something helpful to bring to his work efforts. But above all else it was his family that he truly and deeply loved, and I am sure you all are devastated by his loss. Ed was such a good man and will be missed by so many, and especially by you. Please accept my prayers and thoughts that the inevitable grieving you now experience will soon be replaced by the pleasant memories Ed has left us to treasure. Bruce Kaiser

Dear Carole, Kat and Michael,
I had the pleasure to work with Ed. He spoke often of you all with love and affection. At work he had high standards of excellence in his work; but more importantly he truly cared and respected his colleagues. He was always there to listen to work problems and issues and offer his wise and caring counsel. He also was open about referring to his faith and own experiences when giving advice and encouragement. During the early stages of the pandemic, he checked in regularly to see how my family and kids were doing. And we exchanged notes on family. During these exchanges he never mentioned his health issues. Rather, he focused on asking how we were doing. That is a great example of his kindness. I was blessed to work and befriend Ed.
I'm so sorry for your loss and I sincerely extend prayers to your family, the family that Ed loved so deeply.

I will echo much of what has been shared already about Ed - he was a light in the halls of MITRE and brought joy into each interaction. My thoughts and prayers are with Ed's family during this season of grief - and may the memory of his life encourage you to continue on in the things that brought such meaning to his life.

Ed was so kind and always had a positive attitude. He brought a wonderful, positive energy to the workplace. While my work interactions with Ed were few, it was very clear that he was an amazing person, colleague, and contributor. He will be missed very much. This is surely an extremely difficult time for all of the family--sad, shocking, and overwhelming. I hope that over the long-term the warm memories of Ed will become most prevalent.
With deepest sympathy,

I write this through my tears of sadness that Ed is no longer with us; and at the same time I am filled with gratitude that I had the blessing of being his friend. I am heartbroken that I won't get to see his smile again, or be the beneficiary of his sage advice, so I can't even imagine what you are going through. I pray that you feel comfort, refuge, strength, and healing in God's arms, and the love and support of the many, many people whose lives Ed touched.

Dear Ed
No one who knew you was ready for your departure from this earth. But God had other plans for you. We are all happy that you are no longer in pain. You were one of my very best friends and losing you will leave a hole in my heart for the rest of my life. One of the most caring, kind, decent men on the planet, a role model for all.
I’m sure you know that Carole posted your passing on Facebook (wink). If you look through the comments, there is a theme. A good man. Decent. Caring. Helpful. Considerate. Thoughtful. A mentor. A good hugger. Your humanity is what set you apart from all others and you will be remembered and missed forever.
Rest easy.
Love
