Obituary of William Morgan Montgomery

Captain William Morgan Montgomery, USN (Ret), passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2012, at the age of 90, at Reston Hospital in Reston, VA. He was born on May 3, 1921, in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy with the Class of 1942 and served aboard destroyers in both the North Atlantic and South Pacific theaters in World War II. Following a distinguished naval career including command of USS TOPEKA (CLG-8), he retired from active duty June 30, 1971. He took a position with Linear Electric Motors and later with TECHPLAN Corporation until 1988. He was an avid golfer. Capt. Montgomery is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Marion Saunders Montgomery; his son, William M. Montgomery, Jr., daughter-in-law Patricia M. Montgomery, granddaughter Jacqueline M. Montgomery all of Fairfax, VA; his daughter, Marion M. "Marnie" Montgomery and son-in-law David L. Barton of Leesburg, VA. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Falcons Landing Chapel, 20522 Falcons Landing Circle, Potomac Falls, VA 20165. Inurnment at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, will take place on Monday, January 30. Services begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Naval Academy Chapel. Memorial contributions in his name may be made to Salvation Army of Loudoun County, P.O.
