Dale's sister Debbie was my best friend through elementary school. Met her family a few times when I visited their house. Debbie spoke of them often and I remember how very difficult the death of her mother was on her and the family. Particularly at such a young age. Then we loss Debbie a few years later....a loss I have carried heavy in my heart ever since. But I have seen through the years the continued loss this family has suffered. My heart breaks and goes out to Dawn and those others connected to the family for this and all the losses. But I feel fortunate for the brief light they shed on my life. Donna King

Sam and I were good friends, class of 1968. I got Sam the DEPARTMENT of Justice Job. We rode my motorcycle to work many times and I would pick him before the the sun came up. I left after 5 yrs. and lost contact with him. I knew Sam's family and spent many days in Herdon with them. May he rest in peace. His friend Steve Snyder

I am saddened to learn of Sam's passing and want to wish his family comfort and peace at this difficult time. I only spent one year with Sam, our freshman year at HHS, but he has remained in my thoughts throughout the years. He definitely was a special guy, so funny and sweet - RIP dear Sam,

I am so sorry to hear of Sams passing. I wish to express my condolences to his family. I knew both Sam and Dennis when i attended Herndon High School, both were super nice guys and tons of fun to be around! Sam always made a point to say hi whenever i would see him out in public. I remember running into him at the Safeway in Herndon and we had not see each other for a long time, we had both change and i did not recognize him, he made a point to say hello and then i knew he was. That is just the way he was, he would go out of his way to say hi! As all the posting here by his friends state he was a super nice person ,fun to be with. He will be missed by all who were lucky enough to have know him!
God Bless You Sam and Rest In Peace!

Sincerest condolences to Sam's family. I also attended HHS, class of 69. Sam was one of the sweetest, funniest and nicest guys. Oh, and yes, very goodlooking.
He attended a party at my home, several years back, which also included many of our classmates. It was so good seeing him, and spending some good times together, so many year's later.
God Bless you Sam. You will be so missed.

Sam was a one in a million kind of man! His Smile and laugh you could hear whenever he was around. He was a great friend to Harold Cockerill and Steve Webster. So many good memories! A fuller life no man ever had but too short! He will be missed. But what party there must be in heaven! My deepest sympathies to Dawn and Melissa.

I am so sorry for your loss. I remember going past Fairfax Hospital with Sam (when we were 15) and he started crying. He apologized to me, but said every time he went by that hospital it made him cry because that was where his mom died. I felt so bad for him, but he is finally with her. Sending love and prayers to his family and friends.

Diana is right—always the life of any party. But he was more—such a personality that anyone would want to be near. Sam always knew everyone, and showed he liked them and cared about them, thus everyone wanted to be his friend—a real treasure.
—Till we’re all together in our greatest Reunion!

My deepest condolences to the Saunders' family. Sam was the life of the party when we were in high school. When I was a Freshman at Herndon High I was sitting in the cafateria eating lunch alone. I guess Sam noticed and decided to get a rise out of me. He came over and poked his fingers on both sides of my ribcage. I let out a very loud yelp and everybody stopped and stared at me as Sam walked away rather innocently. Later that day the Vice Principal came up to me and asked me what happened and I told him. I was so flattered that Sam paid attention to me. We had a wonderful life at Herndon High. I went to our High School Reunion a couple of years ago and sure wish I would have run into him again but he did not attend. He will be surely missed by a lot of people.
