Obituary of Leena Joyce Joseph

Leena Joseph, 54, of Ashburn, Virginia passed away peacefully on Feb 4^th after a weeklong farewell to her friends and relatives at the Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family. She fought a good fight against the cancer that was diagnosed in 2017.

Leena was the third child of wonderful parents from south India. Her father’s Airforce career moved her around India with frequent relocation. She loved living at the Airforce quarters and grew up in that multilingual culture.  Leena graduated with a B.Sc Honors in Nursing from the RAK College of Nursing in New Delhi and worked at the ESCORT’s Heart institute. She was offered a job at the Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York in 1992 and she accepted the offer and moved to USA to work as a RN at the NYC ER. She met and married Jerry (Gerald Joseph) in 1995 and had two beautiful children, Nathan and Samantha. She completed her Master’s at Columbia University in NY and was certified to practice as a Nurse practitioner (NP). In 2001 she moved to Virginia and worked at the Washington Adventist Hospital before moving to Inova Loudoun Hospital. She worked as the Administrative Supervisor for about 14 years before retiring due to her illness. Leena loved to cook and distribute food to neighbors and work staff, and she also volunteered at the homeless shelters. She loved to volunteer at the “Twice is Nice” stores. And she is very good in gathering volunteers for the blood drives. Leena was the best daughter, mother, wife and a friend, who always took special care of those who are near and dear to her. She will be forever loved and remembered.

Leena is preceded in death by her father Anthony Amalraj and two brothers Leo Churchill and Leevin Johnson. Leena is survived by her mother Sucila Amalraj and her husband Jerry (Gerald Joseph) and the two children Nathan and Samantha Joseph.

Visitation will be held on Monday Feb 7, 2022 between 5-8 pm at Adams Green Funeral home, Herndon VA and Tuesday Feb 8, 2022 between 9-10 am at the Floris United Methodist Church, Herndon, VA. Followed by church services at Floris United Methodist Church (Tuesday Feb 8, 2022) from 10 – 11 am.  Burial to follow at the Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon at about 11.30 am. We return to Floris UMC at 12.30 pm for Repast/Reception.
