Obituary of Irvin W. Hayes
Irvin W. Hayes departed life February 17, 2022, at Reston Hospital Center. Irvin was born to Etta and Richard Hayes on September 9, 1951, in South Hill, VA. His family were members of Lombardy Grove Baptist Church, where he attended in his youth.
Irvin attended and excelled at End High School where he pursued a Math – Science curriculum. After high school he attended Virginia State University majoring in Physics. During the summer he worked as an electrical engineer at a hospital in New Jersey. As his studies continued, he was selected to work at The National Acceleration Lab in Batavia, Illinois. This led to his recruitment by the Central Intelligence Agency in his junior year. Irvin received his bachelor’s degree in Physics from Virginia State University and post-graduation went on to work for the CIA for 35 years until his retirement in 2006.
The beginning of his third year of college he married his high school sweetheart. Upon completion of school, he and his wife moved to Maryland and eventually settling in Herndon, VA where they began to raise their family
Irvin was a lifetime member of the Optimist Club in Herndon where he coached youth basketball, baseball, football for several years and was a participant in Herndon High School Homecoming Parade. He loved attending the Herndon Festival hanging with friends and family. After retirement vacationing with family and friends was a must every year! Irvin was an avid golfer as well. He later joined Sterling Golf Club where he was an elected board member.
He is survived by his wife, Jacqueline of the home, son Irvin II (Michelle), son Derrick (Avy), granddaughters, Mikajah and Josephine and grandson, Orion – Brothers: Richard (Lizzy), Melvin (Mary), William (Stephanie); Sisters: Delores (Frankie), Frances; A host of nieces and nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, in-laws, classmates, and dear friends.
He is now with his beloved sister Carol, parents, in-laws, and a host of other family members and friends.
