Obituary of James Leroy Jackson 2-8-1933 — 2-24-2022

Beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, Leroy passed away after a brief illness. He was born in Herndon, Virginia, to Corrie H. Jackson and John W. Jackson, Sr., and married to Jane Elizabeth Bridges August 23, 1952.

He was a successful, self-employed businessman - Jackson Insurance Agency. His community, civic, and church activities were numerous: Church lay leader and board member; MYF, Men’s Prayer Group; Sunday School teacher; hosting monthly Fellowship dinners; Herndon Cemetery Board; past president of the Herndon Lions Club, re-elected multiple terms; founder of South Riding Lions Club; co-founder of NACA, an association for insurance agents; past Master of Herndon Masonic Lodge No. 264; Herndon Rotary Club; host for political rallies; supporter of Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Demolay and Job’s Daughters.

Leroy was a generous, caring, and compassionate man, readily available to assist those in need, financially or otherwise. He enjoyed entertaining family and friends at dinner parties in his home; time spent surrounded by family at his vacation home on the Potomac River; organizing races and contests with silly prizes at cookouts and outdoor parties. His avocations included golfing, yardwork, sailing, dancing, water skiing, ice skating, frequent vacations, road trips, dining out with friends, and hot air ballooning - a pursuit Jane watched from the ground.

He lovingly cared for Jane, his wife of 64 years, during her prolonged illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Corrie Jackson; his sisters, Rebecca M. Williams, Mildred L. May, J. Elizabeth Hurst; his brother, John W. Jackson, Jr.; and his beloved wife, Jane.

is survived by his devoted children: Thomas (Linda), Deborah (Robert), Timothy (Brenda); eight grandchildren; Cameron, Thomas (Erin), Elizabeth (Michael), Meghan (Robert), Mary-Jane (Andrew), Stephanie (John), Trevor (Nikki), Travis (Magun), 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
