Obituary of Rosario Garcia
Rosario “Chary” Garcia
May 20, 1946 – March 6, 2022
RESTON – Rose “Chary” Garcia, 75, passed away in Reston on Sunday, March 6. Chary was born on May 20, 1946 in Havana, Cuba to Pedro and Rosario Garcia. She was preceded in death by her parents and by her beloved sister, Elisa Martinez. Chary and Gerardo met while attending “quinceañeras” parties in Havana circa 1960; the young couple quickly became known for their ability to dazzle on the dance floor. Both emigrated from Cuba in 1961, reunited soon thereafter, and were married on November 13, 1965 in NYC. Survived by her husband, a biomedical engineer Ph.D. and management consultant, and two daughters, Evelyn Cochis and Jackie Mosher, Chary also leaves behind 7 grandchildren between the ages of 2 and 20 (in descending order: Sofia, Olivia, Raquel, Addison, Logan, Declan, and Nolan). Taking after her father, a noted sculptor, Chary studied fine arts and was an accomplished artist herself, successfully advancing in the Greeting Card business and filling our homes with her beautiful paintings.
Although the Garcias loved to travel internationally and over the past decade spent time relaxing in their vacation home in Florida, Chary’s foremost priority was her grandchildren. Chary doted on all of them and will be forever remembered for her 7 most important “works of art” and the title that brought her the most pride: Grandma.
Although the whole family feels an immediate and deep sorrow from Chary’s unexpected passing, they find solace in remembering her grace, good humor, exemplary smile, and above all else, her constant love.
May God bless Chary and may she rest in peace as well as in our hearts.
