Nathalie Payne (1931-2022)
We regretfully announce the passing of Nathalie Payne of Leesburg, VA. She passed away peacefully with family by her side at the age of 90, going on 91.
Nathalie moved to Virginia as a young lady with her beloved mother, Hildred. Her first job was picking potatoes, but she was happy to leave that behind and build a family with the love of her life, Kenneth. They went on to have four daughters, one of whom died in infancy. Nathalie was a loving mother who gave her all to her family. When Kenneth passed in 1976, Nathalie raised her youngest teen daughter Lisa on her own, remaining faithful to Kenneth the rest of her life.
Many in the community may remember Nat as the retail manager of Gray Drug / Drug Fair / Rite–Aid, a career she loved and missed greatly after her retirement at the age of 74. She was happy to fill her spare time, however, with her favorite activity – cruising – having gone on over 60 cruises with her family. Nathalie (also known as Nat-the-Cat) enjoyed spending time with family more than anything else, and you would often find her dancing the jitterbug, playing bingo at the firehouse with her grandchildren, taking family trips to Charles Town to hit the slots, playing Scrabble, grabbing her favorite Frappuccino from Starbucks, taking beach trips to the Outer Banks, and gathering the family for many holiday dinners together to enjoy her wonderful cooking.
The matriarch of the family, Nacky as she was called by her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, was one of the strongest and most loving women to ever walk this earth. She was the matriarch of all matriarchs and our family was blessed to have her as its head. She was a tremendous, loving, and generous person who would do anything for you but would always tell it like it is. She loved her family dearly as they do her.
Nathalie was predeceased by her husband Kenneth, her daughter Darlene, and her three sisters Dorthea (Dot), Katherine (Kate), and Patricia (Pat), all of whom she will join in heaven. She is survived by three daughters Victoria (Gene), Gail (Richard), and Lisa (Bob), six granddaughters Crystal, Susan, Kimberly, Amy, Samantha, and Michelle, and 8 great-grandchildren Cody, Delaney, Madeline, Olivia, Dalton, Gabriella, Antonio, and Carter. She was also the loving aunt to so many children and grandchildren of her and Kenneth’s brothers and sisters. A long list of family members have been honored to have her in their life.
Services will be held on April 16, 2022 at Adams-Green Funeral Home with burial to follow at Arlington National Cemetery later this year. In lieu of flowers, you may send any honorary donations to a favorite charity or organization. Cards to the family are also welcomed.
