Sue was my dear friend for over 40 years. We had adjoining offices in Governor Jerry Brown’s Washington, DC office. She was a highly accomplished professional. Later we traveled together out west. We stayed in touch often when she and Art moved around the country. I visited them in Tennessee and California. I remember the gorgeous views of the Bay area they enjoyed from their perch in the Berkley hills. One of the highlights of my last visit to California was our outing to the Marine Mammal Center in Marin County, where they rescue and rehabilitate stranded animals, carry out scientific research and provide educational opportunities. I remember well Sue’s intelligence, her warmth, verve and drive, plus her close bond with Art. She highly valued science. In an old prayer book I came across the one passage that truly fits this moment and it is one that I believe about the departed: “They still live on earth in the acts of goodness they performed and in the hearts of those who cherish their memory.” May her memory be a blessing, may we carry on her legacy. She will be greatly missed. - Elinor Schwartz

Our sincerest condolences to Art and all of Sue’s family. We have lovely memories of our last meal together in SF at Green’s restaurant. A beautiful setting, a delicious meal and good friends. Art, you may not remember but, you and Sue were instrumental in Glen’s position with Bechtel and our subsequent move to East Tennessee over 30 years ago from D.C. Our children fondly remember you both as the folks who lent us their canoe for many of our summer adventures while they were growing up. May we not be sad for what we have lost, but glad for all we remember. We will remember Sue with a loving heart. With all our love, Glen and Angela Galen
