Obituary of Sandra Jean Martinez

MARTINEZ, SANDRA JEAN “Sandy” (Age 62) Herndon, VA

May 2, 2022, our hearts are broken as we mourn the loss of Sandy. She will be remembered as a loving, loyal daughter, sister, aunt and friend. We will miss her generous spirit and cheerful nature. Sandy was a great listener who could make everyone laugh and loved her family, beautiful cats and many life-long friends. She enjoyed a good movie and book, cooking meals and watching sports with friends, always cheering on the underdog. Sandy spent much of her life ‘flying the friendly skies’ with Allegheny Airlines, US Air, US Airways and American Airlines. She received numerous awards, complimentary letters for excellence and served the first-class cabin. Sandy retired and enjoyed many years in Herndon, Virginia amongst family and friends. She spent her later years battling cancer and as with all challenges, Sandy maintained a strong, positive spirit while still caring for others and enjoying the gifts of love and friendship.

She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Samuel Arkle Martinez. She is survived her loving mother, Dorothy Edna Martinez; brother, David S. Martinez; sisters Susan G. Martinez-Hueper (Paul) and Jennifer L. Burstein (Stephen); nieces Smantha Hueper, Jamie Hueper and Hannah Burstein; nephew Justin Burstein.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street Herndon, VA.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fairfax County Humane Society and American Cancer Society.
