Dear Robbie, LaShana, Amber and John,
Words cannot express how sorry I am that Bonita is gone. She was a bright light wherever she went - always smiling, always encouraging, always generous to everyone she came in contact with. It was my honor to work next door to her for almost 20 years at the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD). We spent hours talking over various issues of applicants or grantees that we would encounter. She was always deeply compassionate with poverty situations that existed in the US and loved that CCHD would help alleviate that by 'giving people a hand up, not a hand out'.
Bonita was a dear friend to me and a wonderful person in the world. The world is a much dimmer place now that she is gone. I'm so sorry that I can't be there in VA for her Celebration of Life. I'm in Delaware now and a previous doctor's appointment prevents me from attending. Please know that I am thinking of all of you and remembering each of you in my prayers. I know that Bonita is in the arms of her Lord and Savior, never to suffer again. She was such a strong woman of faith.
May you always carry beautiful memories of your mother every day of your lives. She loved you with all her heart and will continue to do so in heaven. May God grant you peace that passes all understanding.
Much love to you all,
Sandy Mattingly Paulen

Ms. Bonita was a Loving and Sweet Woman. I will never forget the day I ran into her, shortly after my Father's stroke. She said to me. "Stay Positive Thomas, continue to pray for his recovery and I'll do the same". That meant a lot to our family. Over the years it was quite evident that She was one of the most thoughtful, caring and selfless people I've had the pleasure of knowing. Sending love to the family and friends affected by Her passing.

Bonita will always be remembered as a sweet soft spoken beautiful woman, cousin and friend. I cherish my visits with her and her family when I visited the DC area during my VA choir trips. Rest well my dear cousin. Prayers to the family. May God continue to hold you close❤
