Muriel J. Skoug

May 30, 1939 - May 14, 2022

Muriel J. Skoug passed away peacefully May 14, 2022 in Reston, Virginia, following a struggle with Alzheimer’s dementia. A long-time resident of Lincoln, Nebraska, Muriel moved to Virginia a year ago to be closer to family following the death of her husband of 59 years, David L. Skoug.

Muriel was born May 30, 1939, in Grantsburg, Wisconsin to Per Albert and Gladys (Richter) Peterson. She grew up on a dairy farm in Wisconsin and graduated from River Falls State College with a major in mathematics. After teaching high school math for three years, Muriel earned a Master of Mathematics degree from the University of Minnesota. Muriel was a longtime professor in the Mathematics department at Nebraska Wesleyan University. While at NWU, she earned a doctorate from Idaho State University. Muriel enjoyed trips to national parks including Rocky Mountain, Yellowstone, and Glacier, and hiking in the mountains near Pocatello, Idaho. She took great joy in being a grandmother and was a frequent visitor at her grandchildren’s concerts, dance recitals, and sporting events.

Muriel is survived by family members including daughters Ruth Skoug (Peter Ebey) and Kathryn (Russ) Pearlman; grandchildren David Pearlman and Karin and Sonja Ebey; sisters Florence Dahl, Ruby (John) Turner, Joyce (Bob) Polk, Frances (Rick) Parsons, Linda (Ken) Anderson, and Carole Petry; numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dave, her parents, brothers Carol, Robert, and Gene, and sisters Arlene, Bernice, Dorothy, Pearl, and Alice.

A family service will be held in Wisconsin later this year. For those wishing to send memorials, please consider donating in Muriel's honor to a charity of your choice. Condolences may be sent to 758 47th Street, Los Alamos, NM, 87544, or online at adamsgreen.com
