Eileen A. Van Hoomissen, age 99, of Spotsylvania, Virginia, passed from this life peacefully on May 17, 2022.

A unique individual, she loved life, had a signature smile, and was blessed with abundant graces. Eileen was born in Durham, New York on October 19, 1922, the oldest of Daniel and Elizabeth (nee Klaue) Ahern's four children. She grew up in the shadow of her father's tavern business in East Durham, New York, and after high school joined the U.S. Navy WAVES during World War II. She was stationed in Washington, DC where she met her husband, Vincent Van Hoomissen, a Navy pilot. They married in 1946 and had seven children: Frances, Michael, Denise, Kathleen, Mary, Bernard, and Christine. Eileen was a devoted wife and mother and also pursued her creative side with hobbies such as painting, shell arts, bridge, and, together with her husband, designed and built several houses. Predeceased by her husband in 2008, she was cared for by various children and their spouses, most recently by Mary and her husband in McLean. Eileen is survived by all of her children as well as 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
