Obituary of Daniel Patrick Michaely

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daniel Patrick Michaely passed away on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Lake Anna in Spotsylvania, Virginia while attending an activity for the youth of his church congregation. Daniel was born in October 1963 to George Peter Michaely, Jr. and Therese Marie Reiter in the District of Columbia. Daniel, and his twin brother Gregory, were the youngest of eight Michaely children.

He grew up in Vienna, Virginia and attended primary school at Our Lady of Good Council and graduated from James Madison High School. He earned engineering degrees from George Mason University (Fairfax, VA) and Santa Clara University (Santa Clara, CA).

Daniel married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Susan Elizabeth Auten. Their love for each other neared perfection throughout their 38 years of marriage and shined brightly on all who knew them. People looked to them as an example of divine marriage and true love. Daniel was loved beyond belief by their four children, Pamella, Joshua, Ryan, and Lauren and was an adored Pop Pop to the luckiest grandchildren in the world, James, William, Stella and Cora.

At the time of his passing, Daniel was a Senior Manager with the Department of Defense.  Throughout his career, Daniel’s humility, thoughtfulness, calm demeanor, and analytical skills earned him great admiration and respect.

Daniel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in a wide variety of volunteer positions. Daniel blessed many lives through his teaching and selflessness. He freely gave of his time and shared his many talents, quietly lifting and strengthening those in need.

He did not actively seek the spotlight nor desire to be the center of attention. However, he had a genuine quality about him that was magnetic. People were drawn to him and his family. Wherever Dan and Sue lived, throughout the world, they welcomed hundreds into their home with open arms which created treasured memories within the Michaely home. Anyone who has walked through their door is considered family.

Daniel is survived by his lovely wife Susan; seven splendid siblings, John (Lisa), Larry (Karen), Janet, James (Alice), Thomas, David (Cathy), and Gregory (Diane); four incredible children, Pamella (Micah), Joshua, Ryan, and Lauren (Paxton); and four sweet grandchildren, James, William, Stella, and Cora.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 18, 2022, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 2719 Hunter Mill Road, Oakton, Virginia 22124.  A public viewing will be held from 3:00-3:45 PM, followed by a funeral service from 4:00-5:00 PM.
