Obituary of Robert Eugene Miller

Robert Eugene Miller Sr PhD, 88, known as Bob, passed away on June 20, 2022 in Lansdowne, VA. Born October 26, 1933, to Evelyn and Reuben L Miller in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

Bob is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Miller, sons Rob and Terry Miller. Daughter-in- laws Pam and Melissa, and grandchildren Kayla, Devon, and Conlan.

Bob obtained both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Tulsa.  He served in the U.S. Air Force and earned the rank of Captain. He graduated from Texas A&M University where he earned his PhD in Oceanography and loved his Aggies.  He spent his career with the United States Geological Survey (USGS) in Denver Co. and Reston, Va. Researching Oil and Gas exploration for many of America’s pipelines.

After retirement from the USGS, Bob went on to teach math and science classes for 12 years at Bishop Ireton High School.

Bob loved playing baseball and softball. He dedicated his life to his family, science, students, players, and God.

A visitation hour will occur from 10:00-11:00 AM on Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling. A Catholic Mass will be performed following the visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Sterling Cemetery in Sterling, VA.
