I'm sorry for your loss. I wanted to express that in person but sitting the grandchildren in Richmond came up at the last minute. Jo was a gentle soul in a group that made up a terrific team of dedicated educators in Sterling Middle in the early 80's. That young group of teachers anchored by Mauk, Toth, Comet, Bartow and others brought calm, humor, and excellence to a diverse, rapidly changing population of children. Jo was a calm, disarming, presence that could smile at the goings-on and help you put a better perspective on what really mattered, which to her was the best outcome for the children It all served. It is hard to think of that group without her. Bill Harvey

I was sorry to hear about the loss of your loved one.
She was my teacher at Blue Ridge Middle School when I was in 6th or 7th grade. She was a very jolly person and a hardworking, dedicated teacher. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Jo was such an accepting and gracious friend. I loved her infectious smile that she shared with so many people. I remember how kind she was to me and other members of my family when my Mom died (and my father too for that matter.) No never had a bad word to say about anyone - such a rare quality in today's world! I will miss her - the beautiful woman with the amazing fashion sense whose smile lit up the sky.

Jo was one of the most loving, generous, witty, and stylish people I’ve known. She had a remarkable ability to put people at ease and connect with them. Even in recent years, despite the challenges of her condition, she went out of her way to smile, greet, and even wink at her visitors and care givers. Through these little gestures, her true heart showed through until her very last days. I will always miss her, but she is finally resting in peace. We love you, Jo!

Jo was one of the best administrators I had the joy to work under. She understood the roles of every employee and always did her best to see that they had all the tools to do their job seamlessly. Her door was always open, even if it was just to say a quick hello and thanks for all you do. She helped me through some difficult times with her usual grace and dignity. I will always be thankful that she was part of my life. May you rest in peace sweet lady!
