Obituary of Frank Enos Owens

LTC. Frank E. Owens passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on August 16, 2022 in his home under the loving care of his wife of 63 years Evelyn C. Owens.

Frank was born August 1, 1931 in Louisville, KY, a city that would stoke the many passions of his life, including a love of watching horse races and cheering on his Kentucky Wildcats. He graduated from Aire High School in 1949 and the University of Kentucky in 1955, and would go on to earn a Master’s Degree from the University of Arizona.

A lifelong devotee to community and nation, Frank served in the U.S. Army for 21 years, where he achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel (LTC). During his service, he worked Communications/Electronics positions in Korea, Europe, and South Vietnam. He graduated from the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College and was a member of faculty at the Army War College from 1971 – 1975 where he taught computer science.  After retirement, he went on to work for the Mitre Corporation as an Information Systems Consultant.

Frank is survived by wife Evelyn; children Catherine Bischof (Tom) of Yorktown, VA, James Owens of Leesburg, VA, Fred Owens of Wilmington, NC, and Sue Dowling (Brian) of Leesburg, VA; grandchildren Tori Gelbert (Wade), Kellie Lovely (Keith), Ty Owens (Elizabeth), and Danielle Dowling; and great grandchildren Audrey Gelbert and Aidan Gelbert. He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond C and Mary Aline Owens and brother Edward Owens. He is also survived by siblings Beatrice Muraski, Raymond Owens, and John Owens, and a niece and many nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor in Louisville, KY.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. -8:00 pm on Friday, August 19th at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St, Herndon, VA 20170. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, 21370 St Theresa Ln, Ashburn, VA 20147 on Saturday, August 20th at 10:30 a.m.

He will be interred at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
