We first met Scottie when she moved to Virginia five years ago. We were immediately captivated by her Southern charm and grace and quickly found common ground: her willingness to explore the countryside and the local vineyards; her expert and deep knowledge of the game of bridge; her delight in complex jigsaw puzzles; her unwavering attention to detail, especially in her beautiful needlework projects; her interest in the people around her—including our wee grandchildren, whose photos literally rained down on her each week; and her genuine pleasure at being part of the wide, varied and rich social community that define Michael’s and Annerieke’s lives here.
Scottie was often serious in her musings about the world around us, but also always ready to laugh. She brought new perspectives born out of a long and meaningful life.
We are saddened by her passing and grateful that we could spend these last years with her and her family.
Rest In peace, Scottie. With love, Laurie and Jay

I first met Scottie in the early 90’s when I was invited to join the bridge group she was involved with. Over the next 20 or so years we grew closer as friends - over the bridge table - lunching together with friends - sharing sadness when losing beloved husbands and dear friends. Scottie was.(in my opinion) the epitome of a southern lady. She was nearly always composed and almost regal in her bearing - until something tickled her - then she would begin to chuckle - and laugh. Her laugh was so infectious that it never failed to convince the rest of us to join in the merriment - sometimes before we even knew what had triggered her!
I feel so blessed to have known such a wonderful lady and grateful for the friendship we shared. I have missed having her near since she moved to the DC area but we always had the phone to connect us. Now I will look for her in sunrises and sunsets - listen for her in the voices of the birds - and know she is whole and well with the Lord.
