Obituary of Anna M. Vasiento

On September 14, 2022, Anna Maria Vasiento gained her wings and is now walking with the angels. She was 74 years young.

Born into an Air Force family in Germany on June 10, 1948, Anna was the oldest of three, and only daughter, to Sam and Maria McNew. As a child, her family lived in different countries, but she cherished her time in Germany and the UK.  At the age of 16, Anna started her first job as a telephone switchboard operator, in Hampton, VA, that allowed her to pay for the first telephone in her parents’ home. Anna met and married her husband in Hampton, VA in 1967 and shortly after relocated to Queens, NY.  In 1975, she and her family moved to Herndon, VA where she resided until her death. While Anna worked numerous jobs over the years, her most rewarding role was that of wife and mother to her 3 children, Anne, Jenniffer and Jason, as well as the several others who thought of her as a second Mom. Anna and her husband owned and ran Hometown Video, in Herndon, in the late 80’s and early 90’s. She spent her free time cooking, baking, reading, crafting, and watching mysteries, comedies, and dramas on Britbox.  She also loved Rachel Ray and anything pink and sparkly. She also enjoyed watching all the wildlife in her own back yard. She especially loved the hummingbirds. While she had many hobbies, her greatest joy was being a grandmother (Gar, Gramma Anna). She dedicated her life to making sure her children and grandchildren were happy and healthy. She was the most nurturing, caring, and giving woman and loved to spoil her children and grandchildren. When she was not spending time with her family and beloved companion dog, Gracie, she loved to spend time at the beach, which she referred to as her happy place.

Anna was preceded in death by both parents Sam and Maria McNew (Tennessee); her brothers, Joe McNew of Supply, NC and Mike McNew of Hampton, VA; and her son, Jason P. Vasiento, of Herndon, VA.

Anna is survived by her husband, Joseph J. Vasiento; daughters, Anne Logan of Ashburn, and Jenniffer Vasiento of Sterling; grandsons, Alex Logan, Nicholas Logan, and Jason C. Vasiento; ‘bonus’ grandchildren Caroline Dodson, Bryce Kecman and Lily Kecman; great grandchild, Braxton Logan; brother-in-law, Charles J. Vasiento, of Herndon, VA; sister-in-law, Cathy McNew, of Supply, NC; ‘bonus’ daughter, Jessica Kecman, and spouse, Ronnie Kecman of Sterling, VA.

A visitation and celebration of life will be held at Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA on Saturday September 24, 2022, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm.  All are welcome.
