Obituary of Ave' Holbrook

Please share a memory of Ave' to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Avé Holbrook, age 97, passed away at Reston Hospital on Wednesday morning, September 21, 2022.

Born March 22, 1925, in the District of Columbia, Avé graduated Strayer College in 1948 and worked on Capitol Hill as a secretary for most of her working life.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie G. Holbrook; her daughter, Diony R. Wilson, her siblings; Louisa Lessman, Caroline Snyder, and Mortimer Rian.  She is survived by her granddaughter, Katherine, her great-grandchildren, Christopher Simon, and Amelia Avé, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Avé was a woman strong in her faith, devoted to her family and church family. She was a pillar of strength to so many! Avé was full of love and happiness, and often referred to as “joy personified.”  You were always met with a smile and encouragement from Avé. She was absolutely effervescent ... complete with a musical and most contagious laugh. May we all remember the unwavering support and unconditional love we received from Avé, while she dances in the arms of the Lord.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, October 22, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at Sterling United Methodist Church, 304 E. Church Rd., Sterling, VA  20164. A reception will follow immediately in the church hall until 12:30 p.m.  Burial will take place at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd., Brentwood, MD  20722, at 2:00 p.m.  All are welcome.

Donations to Sterling United Methodist Church in Ave’s memory in lieu of flowers are suggested.
