Obituary of Deborah L. Barnes
Deborah Lamar Barnes, 65, of Sterling, VA passed away peacefully on September 29, 2022 at home surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with various illnesses.
Debi was predeceased by her parents, Dan Lamar Sr. and Dorothy (Billingslea) Lamar, and sister, Sandra Harmon. She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Everett Barnes Jr., along with her two daughters, Mary and Megan Barnes and her grandchild, Leander. Debi is also survived by her brother, Dan Lamar Jr., sister, Francoise Lamar, and eight nieces and nephews.
Debi was born in Macon, GA and grew up in Washington, DC. She attended Coolidge High School and graduated in 1975. She enjoyed working at Mantech for over 25 years where she built lifelong friendships. Debi was an avid bowler with her company’s team, which is how she met her husband, Everett. They married in 1987.
Known for her infectious smile and bubbly personality, Debi loved spending time with her family. She would take her family bowling and often volunteered at her daughters’ schools as a teacher’s aide. She always enjoyed shopping for treasures at numerous thrift stores to share with others and made many friends along the way. Debi also loved planting flowers and vegetables in her gardens. She always wanted a lap dog and was blessed to have Zola---the best 90-lb lap dog she could ask for. Her “granddog” was a great comfort to her over her last few years.
