When I started worked at the Neighborhood Resource Center, Ms Rita was the face, like the Momma of the place. When she left, you took her place and the welcoming Momma/Auntie of the place. Always willing to help or feed others. You asked that I look to help others and families. I will continue and remember to do so in yours and Momma Rita's name so your spirit will live on at that location. I will also look out for your family and always answer the phone. Maria, your departure hits us hard. God gave us your presence and you became the angel without wings who lived and walked with us. The angel who, without expecting anything in return, spread her joy and optimism, gave us a smile at the right moment, gave us her hand when we needed it, knew how to listen to us even when there were no words, made us dance, and in dancing we learned how important it is to enjoy time with friends and be thankful for life. I am sure that God received you with open arms and gave you the wings that already had your name on them.
I know that from heaven, you will not take your eyes off each of your loved ones as well as you did here. Our prayers for you "Bellezita" and for your dear family so that God grants them with strength. We will miss you dearly. Rest in peace.

For many years, as an ESOL Assessment Teacher I sometimes worked with Maria at our Lake Anne Welcome Center. She was the heart and soul of the office and would go out of her way to advocate for students. On her own time, she would go into the Herndon community and encourage people to register for school. Maria always had treats to share, and she would tell us stories about her traveling adventures and the great deals she got. I wish I had half the energy and personality of Maria. :)

We thought we’d not have to say goodbye to our dear friend Maria. God decided He wanted her by His side in Heaven. Early in the morning she silently, peacefully slipped away.
Maria was an angel in our midst. I treasure the time I had with her and all the memories. I know we’ll meet again in Heaven but in the meantime will miss her.

“Bellezita” was the sweetest nickname that María would use with everyone she encountered. However, we all knew that she was THE “Bellezita”.
Maria, you left us beautiful memories and many great teachings. Now, after all the diligent and dedicated work you demonstrated in every aspect of your life, it is time for you to rest.
We already miss you, but we know that we will see you again, in a much better place.

I found this photo of the ESOL Assessment and Student Registration teams at Reston/Lake Anne on St. Patrick's Day 2019. Maria was always so bubbly and full of fun. She did love a celebration and wanted others to share in her joy. She will live on in the memories of those whose lives she touched. She was a very special lady and has a big place in my heart. Maria was a gentle, funny, lively friend and colleague, dedicated to the families and individuals she served in several work capacities. She left the world a better place by giving assistance and hope to so many. I 100% agree that, while we all miss her, it was not the quantity of days that she lived with us; rather, it was the quality of each of those days and how much she put into her family, friendships, colleagues, and those she served.
