Billie T. Massey Obituary
July 3, 1945-October 6, 2022
Billie Massey passed away peacefully on the morning of October 6, 2022, while surrounded by family in Potomac Falls, VA. She was born on July 3, 1945 in Atlanta, Georgia and married the love of her life, Tommie, in Meridian, Mississippi on August 4, 1964.
Shortly thereafter, Tommie answered the call to service and they embarked on a 21-year Army career across eight different duty stations throughout the US and Germany. Billie relished each and every challenge of being an Army wife while simultaneously raising their two sons.
She earned her Associate of Arts degree from San Antonio College in Texas and her Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Golden Gate University in California, all while managing the relocation of kids and family from one Army assignment to another. If that wasn’t enough, she also held a variety of jobs that she loved, including a stint as an elementary school teacher, but her most beloved role was using her accounting degree as the office manager and bookkeeper for a large financial planning firm focused on military families.
Billie was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and fostered life-long relationships with the many friends she and Tommie made throughout their 58-year marriage. She was the glue that kept the family together and working seamlessly.
Billie enjoyed cross-stitch, knitting and crocheting, and spent her later years making lap blankets for hospital patients. She also loved reading, consistently juggling multiple books simultaneously to keep her mind sharp. She was a great conversationalist with a sharp & quick wit. And no one ever walked away from one of her pecan pies with an empty stomach!
She is survived by her husband, Tommie Massey, LTC (R), and her sons Chris and Craig, all of whom live locally, along with five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia on October 27, 2022 at 10:30 am, followed by a Celebration of Life at River Bend Club in Great Falls, Virginia beginning at 12:00 pm.
