Obituary of Shirley B. Gloman

Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Shirley Gloman, 90, went home to be with the Lord on October 14, 2022. She was the wife of 63 years to Charles K. Gloman, 3rd, who preceded her in death on May 12, 2020.

Surviving are a son Charles (Chuck) B. and his wife Linda of Allentown, daughter Jill Conley and husband Jim of Herndon, VA, grandsons Matthew, San Francisco, and Andrew Conley NJ, and one niece and three nephews.

Shirley was born in Scranton, PA on November 9, 1931, to the late Gustav and Hilda Bohrer. She and her husband Chuck moved to Hazleton in 1957 and were residents and active in the community until moving to Reston, Virginia in March of 2017. She was a substitute teacher for the Hazleton School District, active in the Hazleton Art League, and an award-winning local artist whose paintings are on display throughout Hazleton.  She was a devout Christian and tried to live her faith, serving as both deacon and elder in her church.

Her infectious laugh made her welcome at social gatherings and she was extremely proud of her family, heritage, and would always go the extra mile to help anyone in need,

She was blessed with such incredible talent – beginning with knitting, then ceramics, oils, and watercolors. Her gift was in capturing the eyes in her paintings. Filled with passion and emotion, her artwork is treasured by all who owns one of her hundreds of paintings.

Shirley was a loving wife and mother, and a staunch supporter of the activities of her children and grandchildren.  She was a loyal friend and cherished her relationships.  She was generous with her time and talents and was a kind and caring listener to anyone with a problem.  She had a gift for identifying those in need, and for providing help.  Shirley could always see the best in people and would make strangers feel welcome.  Her joy and infectious laughter made her the light of any social gathering.

Shirley will truly be missed but will live on in the hearts of her children and grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a food bank or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.
