Obituary of Robert Wendell Howard

Robert W. “Bob” Howard of Reston, Virginia passed away on November 28, 2022. Bob was born on March 20, 1935, in Cincinnati Ohio, to Harry and Virginia (Brubaker) Howard. Bob graduated from Washington & Lee High School in Arlington, was a Tau Beta Pi Mechanical Engineering graduate of Cornell University, a 70-year resident of Washington area, an early resident of Reston, a Naval Aviator, entrepreneur, home builder, realtor, and founding member of the Unitarian Church of Reston. He was a beloved husband, father, stepdad, brother, uncle, grandfather, and great grandfather. Following the passing in 2015 of his wife Mary, after a 45-year marriage, Bob fell in love with Marjorie Lane, and they married 2019. Bob was passionate about building homes and buildings; he cared deeply about how people would use the spaces he helped create, and how to make housing more affordable. Bob lost his eldest son Greg in 1991 and is survived by his wife Marjorie, brother Norman, son Jerry, stepson Mark and wife Lisa, stepdaughter Laura, grandsons Ben, Alex and their wives Sara and Lauren, and his great granddaughter Nora. Services will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Reston at 1:00 PM on February 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to www.uureston.org.
