I am very thankful to Lynn and Reita for all they've done for me and my parents' family across the years. I am his cousin Dale's daughter.
In the early 80's-My grandpa Glenn (Lynn's uncle) took us to visit in Herndon and Lynn was the best tour guide of the nation's capital and the Pentagon. As every one knows--Reita always made the best meals! While driving in DC traffic, Lynn would enjoy pointing ahead to the car blocking the lanes and declare, "I bet that one has an Iowa license plate!"
One summer (1989) Lynn and Reita took me in so I could work and make a lot more money for college than I could in Iowa. I will always be thankful to them for this as they trusted me with their vehicles in city traffic and got me set up with work. Lynn would take me on bicycle rides and I had a hard time keeping up with him in traffic!
We enjoyed seeing Lynn at the summer Caraway cousin reunions--One year he drove Glenn and Catherine Streets (his aunt) to meet extended Caraway Cousins near Pipestone, MN where they met me and my husband from SD. Glenn was very interested in the windmill power turbines that were new at the time and Lynn decided while driving us all to give him a close up view. We were all surprised when Lynn abruptly left the highway to take a farm field dirt road so Glenn could stand under one!
Joe and I send our condolences to Reita, Teri, Bonnie and Mia, Connie, Larry, and Kyle, Linda and Bill and family and all others friends and family who will miss Lynn's grin!

How can you explain when someone comes into your life and you become a better person for having known him? Lynn was just such a person. We met Lynn and Reita in Bremerhaven, Germany, in the '70's. While Lynn was my husband's commander, he was also a mentor, confidant, and...most of all...friend. Upon meeting him, my first impression was, "Wow. He's from Iowa. I've never known anyone from Iowa before." He had this sort of lopsided grin that broke into a smile easily, and I often thought that his Midwestern background added to his great sense of humor. He was a people person, sensing when you were uneasy or unsure and going out of his way to bolster your confidence. While highly intelligent and a formidable leader, he also had a soft side that was reflected often as he showed concern for both his officers and troops. With Reita by his side, he raised three remarkable girls. My two children played with them when they were young. Lynn and Reita literally took members of my family under their roof to care for them when I became ill. When we look back on our years in the Army and reflect on those who had the greatest influence on our lives, Lynn's name comes to the top. We feel privileged to have known him and will miss him dearly. Our prayers go out to Reita and their entire family.

58 years ago Lynn married my closest friend which meant that I had to get to know him. If Reita was happy with him, then he had to be worth getting to know--and,he was.
He was a good father who was very proud of his girls and loved them for their individual attributes. All are beautiful women and intelligent. Teri visited us recently which we really enjoyed and she told us that she credits her parents for equipping her to be independent and capable.
I remember how Lynn took Kyle to many of his activities and enjoyed watching his games and such. What a beautiful tribute for Kyle to say a prayer as his grandfather passed and to light a candle for him. Lynn also enjoyed time spent with Mia.
Lynn was easy to talk to and he always took time to chat with me when I called Reita.
He also had quite a sense of humor.
When I learned of his passing, I immediately turned to family history and researched Lynn's family in Iowa. That is one of the hobbies that Reita and I share -- family history.
My sincere sympathy to Reita, Teri, Bonnie and Mia, Connie, Larry and Kyle and also to Lynn's sister Linda.

I met Lynn about 1963 when he was stationed with the U S Army at the Atlanta Army Depot in Georgia. I was also at the Atlanta Depot where I managed the Officer's Club and Lynn frequently stopped in for various functions. He was a friendly, likeable person. Also over many years I was able to keep in touch with Lynn because he happened to marry one of my wife's best friends (Reita). I always liked when they stopped over and Lynn would help me with various tasks, especially in my vegetable garden. You didn't have to ask him, he was always ready to help.
His passing is a great loss and I extend my condolences to Reita and his children and grandhildren.
