Linda was preceded in death by her father, Capt. Joseph E. Madacey, USCG; her mother, Alma K. Madacey; and sister, Sandra Ratcliff. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Wilfrid Hamp; her two children, Brian Hamp (Tammy) and Deanna Hamp-Barker (Ricky); her half-sister, Pamela Madacey, three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other extended family members.
Linda grew up in Arlington, VA where she graduated from Washington - Lee High School in 1958 and attended George Washington University as she started her wide-ranging business career in the U. S. Government and various businesses, ending her business career with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting in 1994.
Linda and Wilfrid met in high school where she was active in her sorority, the choir, and various singing groups. Wilfrid and Linda married in 1962 and started their travels as part of Wilfrid’s career.
Linda and Wilfrid enjoyed traveling to spend time with lifelong friends, including yearly New Year’s Eve trips to various parts of the country, often coinciding with visits to dear friends.
Linda loved to play tennis, learned to tap dance, and was involved with her children's activities as they grew up. She was very supportive of Wilfrid’s career and worked with him as he ventured into business ownership. Linda loved to host family and friends as she was an avid party planner. After retirement, Linda was involved with the Women’s Association of Hilton Head Island and enjoyed the working on the Vestry, as well as other committees, at All Saints Episcopal Church of Hilton Head. Linda was an avid reader and loved doing crossword puzzles to keep her mind sharp. Linda’s children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren filled her heart with joy and she cherished any time she and Wil could spend with them, either in person or on Zoom.
A private family service was held on Friday, December 30, 2022. A Celebration of Linda’s Life is being planned and information will be made available once determined.
