Obituary of Gary Thomas Roan

Gary Thomas Roan of Falls Church, VA, passed away December 31 at home in the company of his loving wife, Maureen Roan, and with family and friends by his side. He was born September 3, 1954, in Bellefonte, PA the son of Budd and Sophia Roan, who preceded him in death.

A 1977 graduate of Penn State University, Gary went on to pursue a career at the Naval Research Laboratory, Washington D.C., in the Tactical Electronic Warfare Division, Offboard Countermeasures Branch. While working at NRL, Gary earned his Master’s degree and PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park.

Ever the adventurer, Gary enjoyed the outdoors, especially rock climbing and hiking, and gazing at the planets and the stars.

Gary is survived by his wife Maureen of 32 years, and by his brother Leonard (Diane) Roan of Midland, MI, and their children Jennifer Roan, Alison Roan, Greg Roan, and Megan Morgan; sister Janet Winfield of Elmira, NY and her children Adam Lindquist and Alexandra Lindquist Morris; a great-niece and seven great nephews.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Church in Reston, VA, on Friday, January 13 at 11:00 a.m.  Reception to follow Mass at Church.

Interment private.
