Eulogy Given for Joan Huff
This past year has been the most difficult and challenging year for our family. I am grateful for my entire family. We have been an incredible source of strength for each other during the year. Thank you all.
Betty, Kay, Tom, Gail and George, mom loved you dearly and was so grateful for you Her loving sisters and brothers.
I am also grateful that this room is filled with so many families and friends that knew and cared for my mom. (Recognize the Morning Side Staff)
Seeing the tremendous love and support in this room for our mom and family is humbling and inspiring. Thank you for taking the time today to be here. It means a lot to us.
Scriptures say, to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. Mom was a woman of conviction, courage and strength. She loved the Lord and would rarely miss her morning prayers and bible reading.
This is a very emotional and challenging time for me. I have struggled to understand and accept this situation. Losing Mom is a deeply painful, I have a hurricane of emotions, processing, and reflections and then relief as Mom suffered for so long with so much crippling pain.
When I reflect on our childhood the word CHAOS comes to my mind but growing up was far from Chaos it was a small house filled with lots of noisy people who truly loved each other that were doing many things morning until night.
Not only was our house filled with our family but was the gathering house for the entire Neighborhood. Murad said it best and I quote.
“Today we lost a beautiful soul, one that many of us have called mom. Why? Because for 48 years, this beautiful soul welcomed me and others into her home and her heart.”
We as children were far from perfect always causing heartache and pain for a parent. Dad and Mom raised us the best way they knew and might have been angry for a short while with their children, but they always forgave and forgot all the bad deeds that we, as kids caused. They showed us unconditional love as our parents no matter what happened.
Mom never missed sending a birthday card as you can all attest the cards always arrived on the exact day. Mom spent many hours planning the arrival of the birthday card on the birthday, she must have had insider working for her at the Post Office.
Favorite Memories
Twice a year Mom would take each child clothes shopping for school and Christmas. This was a special time for me as I had my mother all to myself no one to interrupt us talking and she would take you to the restaurant of your choice and then to Sears for shopping. When we get home one outfit would go in one bag and the other four outfits into another bag. You would take the four outfits to the back basement door and then you would carry one outfit into the house to show dad your new school outfit. Dad would think we only bought one outfit.
As a small child I would go to bed Christmas Eve without a Christmas tree or trace of Christmas in our house. Santa was paid extra to decorate our tree and house and waking up Christmas morning the house was filled with wonderful Christmas memories and more gifts than were deserved. I still wonder to this day how Santa Claus could have done all that in one night. It will always be a mystery to me.
A day in the life of my mother
She cared for Elwood.
She raised kids.
She worked the business.
She peeled 10lbs of potatoes daily.
She carpooled to multiple schools.
She drove kids to work.
She mailed Birthday Cards.
She would get work permits.
She made the best beef pot pie.
She helped with Homework.
She drove Mrs. O’Connor
She took care of the pets.
She visited her mother in Maryland.
She did Laundry never owned clothes dryer.
She hung the clothes on the clothesline.
She babysat the Lyndsey kids.
She never owned a dishwasher (7 kids)
She was called into Teacher or Principles office.
She burnt the pork chops.
She cared for grandkids.
She made sure no kids drowned in the Swimming pool.
She had dinner on the table at 5pm every night.
Mom was an amazing, beautiful woman. She was kind, loving, a true Angel.
If anyone can make Jesus feel Guilty it would be Mom and God help Elwood leaving this earth first when she gets there.

I didn't know Mrs. Huff well but ,I know her son Kenny very well .And I've meant her daughter Kriss. That tells me she must of been a wonderful lady. plus my Uncle Smitty talked very highly of her. I do know she loved the Lord and liked working puzzles, something we both had in common. She is now gone on home to a place where there is no more suffering or pain. to be with her loved ones that went before her. The scriptures say,To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord ,I pray all will take comfort in that.love and prayers for the family.

My Grandma was an amazing, beautiful woman. She was kind, loving, a true Angel. She raised 7 amazing children. And helped raise many Grandchildren. She touched so many lives and our hearts are breaking but she lived a long, wonderful life with Our Sailor and family. Now she is with Pap Pap and I bet, couldn't be happier! I love you Grandma and will miss you every day!

Aunt Joan was a very special lady with a beautiful smile and a wonderful laugh. She was always concerned for others. I have special memories of her when I was younger, she was the first woman I knew that could drive a car. I was so impressed by this. I remember her helping with our family when her sister, my mom, was sick. She loved her Elwood, her family and especially her grandkids. She was a devout Catholic who loved God and prayed for many, including me. Aunt Joan never forgot our Declan and sent many notes and made many donations to Journey4ACure. She had a heart of hold and will be missed. Love you Aunt Joan.

Saint Joan as I often called you because you were the closest to a Saint that I would ever meet.
